Student Alternative (Private) Loans

Before considering an alternative or private loan, please check your options and eligibility for a federal student loan.

These loan programs are designed to bridge the gap between the cost of your education and traditional sources of financial aid. Banks and not the federal government offer these loans. These private loans are specifically designed for students attending school on a part-time to full-time basis, including weekend, evening, distance learning, and continuing education programs.

What do these private loans have in common?

  • No financial aid application required
  • Based on credit, current income, U.S. residency qualifications of either the student borrower OR a co-signer
  • Loan programs for non-credit/continuing education courses (less than 6 credits)

The following is our preferred lender list for private loans. After carefully reviewing the features offered by a wide range of lenders, we have chosen the lenders on this list because they offer a superior combination of savings, customer service, and loan processing reliability.

You may, however, select a lender of your choice that is not on this list. Please contact the Financial Aid Office if you would like to do so and we will provide instructions on how to apply for a loan with that lender.
