Credit for Your Life/Professional Experience
Students may earn college course credit by submitting a formal written portfolio documenting college level competencies equivalent to the course outcomes of one or more courses in the student’s program of study.
STEP 1: Contact the Center for Alternative Studies (CAS) at cas@northshore.edu to determine whether this option is right for you.
STEP 2: Upon CAS approval, you will prepare a portfolio that documents what you have learned from your Life/Professional experience. CAS staff will be available to assist you in developing your portfolio, understanding the guidelines, and filling out the requisite forms.
STEP 3: Submit your final portfolio for review by the Departmental Faculty Review Committee who will make a recommendation for course credit award.
STEP 4: Based on formal approval by the Division Chair and Dean of Academic Affairs and payment of fees, you will be awarded credit.
Credit for Your Professional License/Certificate

- A classroom and/or formal on-the-job training program sponsored by a business, industry, agency, the military, an educational institution, association or organization.
- Training demonstrated by the award of a license or certificate issued by a State or Federal regulatory agency or recognized professional association.
